Hi Folks,

I've had an e-mail that says:

------------
It may be me getting blind in my old age but I couldn't find the Red Lion at
Preston Brook last weekend. Has it gone the way of many other country pubs.
------------

Should I suggest my correspondent gets new specs or are things as he fears?

For those who have been worrying that the Waterways Guide site appears to
have gone dormant over the summer, let me reassure you that I am now trying
to catch up with a host of updates, so expect quite a few entries on the
"What's New" page overt the coming weeks!

Gone several years ago, there are houses and a Spar/Post Office on the
site.

I don't think anyone who knew it could really describe it as a
'country pub' - certainly never my idea of one. More of a 'road house'
really. There's the relatively new 'Preston Brook', a standard chain
eaterie with kids' play facilities, half a mile or so up the road
towards Chester, or the Tunnel Top (formerly Talbot Arms) on
(surprise) the top of the tunnel. The latter is a lot better than it
was some years ago, when it went through a prolonged bad patch and
ultimately closed completely for a while.

The Red Lion had the distinction of being the only pub I've been
'asked to leave' <g> I was drinking with a group of Anderton Canal CC
boatmen, the landlady wasn't too keen on the gentle aroma of diesel
which we brought with us, despite us being in the rather scruffy Tap
room.

Cheers
Tim

Thanks for the feedback. Your name will be added to the credits page on the
site, just as soon as I do my next update!

It would have been wonderful to report "Don't visit after fixing your
engine!" Shame! :-)
