Can anyone tell me anything about the remaining spur of the Grosvenor Canal?

For anyone who doesn't know, the Grosvenor Canal ran from the Thames to
roughly the spot where London Victoria station is today. Over the years
it was cut back and now there is just a short spur into a housing
development, with a small marina, moorings, electrical hook ups, etc, etc.

The strange thing is that no attempt seems to have been made to
reconnect the spur to the Thames. What was the point of spending all the
money building a marina if it is never going to be used? Does anyone
know what is going on here?

Nogin.

It is connected to the Thames, hate to think what the mooring fees would be
in that bit of London.

Google Maps Satellite shows one small boat moored there:

This should give a street view from Grosvenor Rd Bridge:

No, I can assure you that there are no boats moored there these days and
absolutely no chance of getting them in other than by road.

No, you cannot get into the lovely, plush, expensive marina, even
through the big lock gates and all the lovely, plush, other lock gates.
There are barriers across the entrance.

Indeed, the canal terminus dictated the shape of Victoria Station.

Is a bit more detailed than the Wiki with some nice photos.

As for the marina with the token boat that has sometimes been seen I
wonder if any stipulations were made when the planning application
went in? Be easy to ask for a marina to keep the token length of
canal in water but forget to include a clause that it must be usable
from the Thames.

One problem that is mentioned in one of the articles I've read is that
the "swing" bridge over the centre of the lock is, in fact, not a swing
bridge nowadays.

I suspect that the real reason it's not allowed to be used by boats is
that the people who have paid a *lot* for their shiny new waterside
homes don't want us nasty, smelly, dirty boaters around.

When some of them can afford floating gin palaces, we may see a policy
change.
